Colada Sunrise Cocktail

Colada Sunrise Cocktail Recipe: A Tropical Sunset in a Glass

  • Author: Ethan

Description

A tropical beauty in every sense, the Colada Sunrise Cocktail blends creamy coconut, tangy lime, sweet pineapple, and smooth white rum—finished with a drizzle of grenadine for that iconic, glowing sunrise effect. It’s refreshingly rich, ridiculously easy, and guaranteed to bring instant vacation vibes to your glass. Perfect for backyard hangs, brunches, or anytime you’re craving a splash of sunshine!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 50 ml white rum

  • 50 ml pineapple juice

  • 30 ml fresh lime juice

  • 30 ml coconut cream (not coconut milk!)

  • 15 ml grenadine syrup

  • Ice (crushed or small cubes recommended)

  • Optional garnish: pineapple wedge, maraschino cherry, cocktail umbrella

Instructions

  • Shake it up: In a cocktail shaker, combine the white rum, pineapple juice, lime juice, and coconut cream. Add a handful of ice and shake well until frothy and chilled.

  • Prep your glass: Fill a hurricane or tulip glass with fresh ice.

  • Pour and layer: Strain the shaken mixture into the glass. Then, slowly pour grenadine along the inside edge of the glass. It will sink and gradually rise for that dreamy sunrise gradient.

  • Garnish: Add a pineapple wedge, a cherry, and a paper umbrella to complete the tropical look.

  • Serve: Hand it over without stirring to keep the colors layered—sip with a straw or straight from the glass to enjoy every flavor shift!

Notes

  • Use full-fat coconut cream (not milk!) for the best creamy texture.

  • Want it frozen? Blend all ingredients (except grenadine) with ice, then layer the grenadine after pouring.

  • Make it a mocktail by replacing the rum with coconut water or extra pineapple juice.

  • Spiced rum works beautifully if you want a warmer, deeper flavor profile.

  • Want to prep ahead? Mix the base (rum, juices, coconut cream) in advance and refrigerate—just shake with ice and add grenadine when serving.
