Frozen Old Fashioned Slush – A Bold, Boozy Classic Gone Cool

  • Author: Ethan

Description

This Frozen Old Fashioned Slush brings the bold bourbon flavors of the classic cocktail into full chill mode. Blended with orange, bitters, and just the right touch of sweetness, it’s icy, smooth, and seriously refreshing—perfect for summer hangs, weekend gatherings, or just sipping solo on the porch. Simple ingredients, quick prep, and all the depth you love from a true Old Fashioned… just cooler.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 oz bourbon (your favorite mid-range bottle)

  • 1 oz simple syrup (or 1 sugar cube)

  • 1 oz fresh orange juice

  • 34 dashes Angostura bitters

  • 2 cups ice (plus more if needed for texture)

  • Orange zest, for garnish

  • Optional: cocktail cherry, for garnish

Instructions

  • Juice your orange and zest the peel before slicing. Set zest aside for garnish.

  • In a high-speed blender, combine bourbon, orange juice, simple syrup (or sugar cube), and bitters.

  • Add 2 cups of ice. Blend until smooth and slushy—adjust with more ice if needed to reach your desired consistency.

  • Pour into a chilled rocks glass or coupe.

  • Garnish with a twist of orange zest and an optional cherry.

  • Sip slowly and enjoy the cool twist on a classic!

Notes

  • Bourbon Matters: Go for something smooth and balanced—like Bulleit, Maker’s Mark, or Buffalo Trace. Avoid super-smoky or overly sweet options.

  • Adjust to Taste: Want it sweeter? Add a little more simple syrup. Want it brighter? A splash of lemon juice is a great addition.

  • Make-Ahead Friendly: Blend and freeze in an airtight container. Let thaw for a few minutes, stir or re-blend before serving.

  • Hosting Tip: Multiply the recipe and blend in batches for a big-batch pitcher slush—perfect for parties!

  • Glassware Tip: Chill your glasses in the freezer before pouring for longer-lasting frostiness.
