Ingredients
-
1 (12-pack) King’s Hawaiian rolls
-
3 large eggs
-
¾ cup half-and-half or milk
-
2 tablespoons brown sugar
-
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
-
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
-
1 pinch salt
-
4 tablespoons butter, for frying
-
Powdered sugar, for topping
-
Maple syrup, optional for serving
Instructions
-
Slice each King’s Hawaiian roll in half horizontally like a sandwich bun. Set aside.
-
In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, half-and-half, brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, and a pinch of salt until fully combined.
-
Dip each roll half into the custard, letting it soak for just a few seconds per side. Let the excess drip off.
-
Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat and melt the butter.
-
Place the soaked roll halves cut-side down into the skillet. Cook for 2–3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and slightly crisp.
-
Transfer to a plate, dust with powdered sugar, and drizzle with maple syrup. Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
-
Don’t oversoak—Hawaiian rolls are soft and absorb quickly. A quick dip does the trick.
-
For dairy-free, use almond or oat milk. For extra richness, use heavy cream.
-
Want to freeze? Cook first, cool completely, then freeze on a baking sheet. Reheat in a toaster oven or skillet.
-
Try adding orange zest, almond extract, or fresh berries for extra flavor!
-
These reheat beautifully—perfect for make-ahead breakfasts or brunch spreads.
