  • Author: Ethan

Description

Hawaiian Roll French Toast is soft, sweet, and golden with a buttery crisp edge—your new favorite cozy breakfast. These fluffy King’s Hawaiian rolls are soaked in a warmly spiced custard and pan-fried to perfection, creating mini French toast bites that are anything but boring! Ready in under 20 minutes and perfect for kids, brunch guests, or a slow weekend morning. Serve with powdered sugar and maple syrup for a touch of morning magic.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (12-pack) King’s Hawaiian rolls

  • 3 large eggs

  • ¾ cup half-and-half or milk

  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

  • 1 pinch salt

  • 4 tablespoons butter, for frying

  • Powdered sugar, for topping

  • Maple syrup, optional for serving

Instructions

  • Slice each King’s Hawaiian roll in half horizontally like a sandwich bun. Set aside.

  • In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, half-and-half, brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, and a pinch of salt until fully combined.

  • Dip each roll half into the custard, letting it soak for just a few seconds per side. Let the excess drip off.

  • Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat and melt the butter.

  • Place the soaked roll halves cut-side down into the skillet. Cook for 2–3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and slightly crisp.

  • Transfer to a plate, dust with powdered sugar, and drizzle with maple syrup. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • Don’t oversoak—Hawaiian rolls are soft and absorb quickly. A quick dip does the trick.

  • For dairy-free, use almond or oat milk. For extra richness, use heavy cream.

  • Want to freeze? Cook first, cool completely, then freeze on a baking sheet. Reheat in a toaster oven or skillet.

  • Try adding orange zest, almond extract, or fresh berries for extra flavor!

  • These reheat beautifully—perfect for make-ahead breakfasts or brunch spreads.
