Hot Mess Sunset Cocktail: A Bold, Fruity Sip of Summer

  • Author: Sam

Description

The Hot Mess Sunset Cocktail is a bold, layered drink that looks like a tropical sunset and tastes like summer in a glass. With juicy mango, rich berry liqueurs, and peachy sweetness, it’s the ultimate crowd-pleaser—perfect for warm evenings, parties, or when you just need a little vacation in a glass. Serve it with a chili-sugar rim for a fun spicy twist. You’ll be making this one on repeat!

Ingredients

Scale
  • ¾ oz blackberry or cherry liqueur (base layer)

  • ¾ oz raspberry liqueur (middle layer)

  • 1 oz peach schnapps

  • 3 oz mango juice (or enough to top the drink)

  • Ice (enough to fill a tall glass)

  • Fresh raspberries or blackberries (for garnish)

  • Orange or lemon slices (for garnish)

  • Optional: Tajín or chili-sugar (for rimming the glass)

Instructions

  • Rim the glass (optional): Run a citrus wedge around the rim and dip into Tajín or chili-sugar mix.

  • Add ice: Fill a tall glass with ice to the top.

  • Pour the base: Add ¾ oz blackberry or cherry liqueur to the bottom of the glass. Let it settle.

  • Layer the raspberry: Slowly pour ¾ oz raspberry liqueur over the back of a spoon to form the middle layer.

  • Mix the top layer: In a shaker, combine 1 oz peach schnapps with 3 oz mango juice. Shake or stir gently.

  • Top the cocktail: Slowly pour the mango-peach mixture over the spoon onto the top of the drink.

  • Garnish: Add fresh berries and a slice of lemon or orange. Serve with a straw or stir stick.

Notes

  • Juice swaps: No mango? Try pineapple, guava, or orange juice.

  • Non-alcoholic version: Replace liqueurs with berry syrups and peach nectar, then top with sparkling water.

  • Spicy variation: Add a few drops of hot sauce to the mango juice or infuse schnapps with jalapeño.

  • Batch tip: Want to serve a crowd? Multiply the ingredients and layer each glass individually for best results.

  • Pro tip: Chill all ingredients and the glass for clean layers and a slower melt.
