Ingredients
For the cocktail:
1.5 oz dark rum
2 oz full-fat coconut milk
1 oz vanilla syrup
0.75 oz fresh lime juice
1.5 oz blackberry purée
1 pinch activated charcoal (optional, for color)
Crushed ice
For the garnish:
Fresh blackberries
Lime wedge
Mint sprig
Instructions
In a blender, combine dark rum, coconut milk, vanilla syrup, lime juice, blackberry purée, and activated charcoal if using.
Add a generous scoop (about 1.5 cups) of crushed ice.
Blend until smooth and slushy.
Pour into a chilled hurricane or stemmed glass.
Garnish with a skewer of blackberries, a lime wedge, and a mint sprig.
Serve immediately with a straw—and your most mysterious smile.
Notes
For a mocktail version, replace the rum with pineapple juice or coconut water.
Make your own vanilla syrup by combining 1:1 sugar and water with a splash of vanilla extract.
Frozen blackberries work great for the purée—just blend and strain.
Activated charcoal is optional but gives the drink its striking black-violet color. Be sure to use food-grade charcoal.
Prep the liquid base in advance (minus ice) and store in the fridge for up to 24 hours. Blend with ice just before serving.
