Root Beer Float Shots

Root Beer Float Shots: A Throwback Treat With a Grown-Up Twist

  • Author: Sam

Description

Root Beer Float Shots are the perfect grown-up twist on a classic soda shop favorite. Fizzy hard root beer meets creamy whipped topping and a boozy kick of caramel or vanilla vodka—all served in chilled shot glasses with a cherry on top. These dessert-style shots are fast, fun, and guaranteed to wow your party crowd!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 oz hard root beer, chilled (such as Not Your Father’s)

  • 3 oz salted caramel vodka or vanilla vodka, chilled

  • Whipped cream, for topping

  • Maraschino cherries, for garnish

  • Optional: caramel drizzle or pinch of flaky sea salt

Instructions

  1. Chill the shot glasses
Place your shot glasses in the freezer for 15–20 minutes to get that frosty, soda-shop feel.

  2. Mix the boozy base
In a small pitcher or cocktail shaker, gently stir together the chilled hard root beer and vodka. Go easy—keep the fizz!

  3. Pour into glasses
Divide the mixture evenly between 4–6 shot glasses, filling each about ¾ full to leave room for toppings.

  4. Top with whipped cream
Add a swirl of whipped cream to each shot using a piping bag or a can of whipped topping.

  5. Garnish and serve
Finish with a maraschino cherry on top. If you’d like, drizzle with caramel sauce or add a tiny pinch of flaky sea salt. Serve immediately!

Notes

  • For a dairy-free version, use coconut whipped cream.

  • Want a float-style twist? Add a tiny scoop of vanilla ice cream instead of whipped cream.

  • Pre-mix the root beer and vodka ahead of time, but add toppings just before serving.

  • This recipe is easy to scale—just stick to a 2:1 ratio of root beer to vodka.

  • Try whipped cream or butterscotch vodka for a flavor change-up!
