Ingredients
For the Cocktail (Serves 2):
2 oz rye whiskey
2 oz bold, dry red wine (like Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, or Syrah)
1 oz blueberry purée (fresh or store-bought)
1 oz mango kiwi simple reduction (see below)
½ oz freshly squeezed lemon juice
Crushed ice
For the Mango Kiwi Simple Reduction (makes enough for 4 cocktails):
½ cup fresh mango, diced
½ kiwi, peeled and diced
½ cup water
¼ cup sugar
For the Garnish:
2 fruit skewers (with mango, kiwi, grapes, and berries)
Instructions
Make the Mango Kiwi Simple Reduction:
In a small saucepan, combine mango, kiwi, water, and sugar.
Simmer over medium heat for 10–15 minutes, until the fruit is soft and the liquid has slightly thickened.
Remove from heat and blend until smooth.
Strain through a fine mesh sieve. Let cool completely before using.
Mix the Cocktail:
In a shaker filled with ice, combine the rye whiskey, blueberry purée, mango kiwi reduction, and lemon juice.
Shake well for 15 seconds until chilled and vibrant.
Fill two goblet or wine glasses with crushed ice.
Strain the cocktail mixture evenly into each glass.
Slowly float the red wine on top by gently pouring it over the back of a spoon to create a layered effect.
Garnish and Serve:
Thread cubes of mango, kiwi, grapes, and berries onto two cocktail skewers.
Rest the skewers across the rims of each glass.
Serve immediately and enjoy every sip of this stunning layered cocktail.
Notes
Make ahead tip: The mango kiwi reduction can be prepared up to 5 days in advance and stored in the refrigerator.
Wine matters: Use a bold, dry red wine for the best float and flavor contrast.
Fruit options: Swap in pineapple, strawberries, or even edible flowers on your garnish skewer.
Non-alcoholic version: Use zero-proof whiskey and non-alcoholic red wine, or swap in pomegranate juice for a creative mocktail twist.
Perfect for parties: Scale up the cocktail base and mix in a pitcher. Pour and float the wine fresh for each serving to wow your guests.
